The Polk County Board of Commissioners are taking their bi-monthly show on the road starting Monday. The commis sioners will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Saluda Town Hall. The board wanted to move its meetings around so that citizens in other areas who may have been reluctant to travel to Columbus to see their county board in action will have every opportunity. What's happening: Internationally known pianist Scott Watkins will be in concert Friday night at 8 at the Tryon Fine Arts Center in a benefit performance for Steps to Hope. Tickets are on sale at Kelly's Gift Shop and The Flower Cot tage in Columbus, Nations Bank and Tryon Federal Sav ings and Loan in Tryon and Columbus; The Bookshelf, Cowan's and The Tryon Daily Bulletin in Tryon. All who are interested in cross country in Polk County, please meet at Tryon Middle School (at Harmon Field) August 3 at 7 p.m. The United Methodist Women (Continued On Back Page) TMGA Events Are Burgeoning Despite large numbers of members being off on vacation, (how can people go off on vacation from La La Land? - this is the place where people "come to" for vacation), nearly 50 golfers participated in Mon day's TMGA "Drawn- Twosomes, Best Ball," format at the Tryon Country Club. Eighteen Hole Winners, at a remarkable 63, were Bob Hast ings and John Gramcs. After a Pettit "Voodoo System card match," Bob Widdicombe and John McNichol placed second with their 65. Nine Hole Win ners were Glenn Webb and Bill Hart with 32, followed by Bob Gibbs and Bob Wishmeier, with 33. The growing popularity of the Golf Committee's imagina tive formats attest to their suc cess. And "The Boys of Mon day" continue to grow in num bers. Kelly Homecoming And Revival Annual Homecoming and Revival Services will be held at the Garrison Chapel Baptist Church August 2-7. Home- coming will be observed on Sun., Aug. 2, with dinner at 3 ' n ’^9 church Fellowship Hall. Service will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Lewis Mills pastor of the Gold Hill Baptist Church in Rutherfordton as the guest speaker. He will be accompanied by the choirs and congregation from Gold Hill. Kelly, pastor of the Second Canaan Baptist (Continued On Back Page) Buys Land Chris and Roberta Dixon of Bremerton, Wash., have pur chased 27.71 acres of Green Crock land from B.C. Buck. Chris is presently in the U.S. Navy and expects to build here when he gets out within the next two years. Glenn Otto Mittelstadt of AM Realty handled the complete sale. New Arrival Jason and Tina Deck of Ruth erfordton are parents of a daughter, Matlin Ashley, born July 16 at Rutherford Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs., 6 oz., and is 20 1/2" long. Maternal grandparents are Pete and Helen Price of Pea Ridge, and great-grandparents are Sheriff and Mrs. Boyce Carswell of Pea Ridge. Paternal grandparents are James and Brenda Deck of Rutherfordton. Great- grandparents arc Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Hutcherson of Colum bus. New Arrival Ann and Michael Dill of Lan drum are parents of a daughter, Kathryn Ann, born on July 20,’ 1992, at Spartanburg Regional’ Medical Center. She weighed 7 lbs. lOoz. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Billy Dennis of Clio, S.C. Paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs. Clarence Dill of Lan drum.
